Mimes…

We saw mimes performances today. It was interesting view. I always was curious how they can be motionless for so long, not reacting for people around … or reacting - but in their own way. :)

International Mime Festival is the largest event of its kind in the world.

Artists perform in a number of venues across the capital, including the South Bank Centre, Royal Opera House and the ICA, attracting many people from all over the world, it was quite crowdy.

Honeymoon time

It`s a wonderful place for honeymooners:) My mummy was there when she got married the second time.

They have had wide range of different activities organised. The rooms are individually themed - exotic, eastern honeymoon amid Chinese, Japanese and Indian. --> (you may have to pay a little extra to hire a sitar player for the evening!)

The sumptuous beds come complete with lavish canopies and the marble baths are just about big enough for two. The in-house restaurant is very much in demand but, as a Blake otel guest, you can order in and dine in your own private fantasy land.

Regent Street

Famously part of the green set in Monopoly, along with Oxford Street and Bond Street, Regent Street is a Mecca for shoppers. Home of Hamley’s, which once held the title of largest toy-shop in the world, the street curves majestically away from Piccadilly Circus joining to Oxford Circus, playing host to D H Evans and Liberty among others.

The street was originally created as part of John Nash’s town plan in 1811, and was named after the then- Prince Regent.

Regent Street can be a draw for the crowds for a variety of reasons, from the switching-on of the Christmas lights by the big-name celebrity of the time to the annual Regent Street Festival.

Last year, five hundred thousand people are thought to have turned out to see a selection of Formula 1 cars drive the length of Regent Street, an event which has ignited interest in the idea of a London Grand Prix.

London's West End tops global office rent league

London's West End has easily retained its position as the world's most expensive office market.  According to research compiled by CB Richard Ellis, the world's largest property services firm, annual Ho Chi Minh City office rents rocketed by 94 percent to $85.84 per square foot.

But at $299.54 per square foot, rents in London's West End once again eclipsed those in Moscow and other international business hubs. Rents in the supply-starved market are 82 percent higher than London's City office market and nearly three times the rents in the Midtown Manhattan office market in New York, which is the Americas' most costly market.

Tokyo's Inner Central Five Wards, Mumbai's Nariman Point and Tokyo's Outer Central Five Wards were named the world's third, fourth and fifth most expensive markets, respectively.

Singapore and Dubai were newcomers to the top 10. Singapore ranked ninth, with an occupancy cost of $139.31 per square foot, while Dubai was number 10, with an occupancy cost of $128.49 per square foot. ( info from: forbes.com )

The Oxo Tower

The Oxo Tower now a top class London restaurant with superb views across the River Thames of the city of London. Built on an earlier-twentieth-centuary electric power station and rebuilt in 1920 with its art nouveau design by the Oxo meat and gravy consortium owned by the Liebig meat company. Unable at the time to have outside advertising on such a high tower the inclusion of the clever window design in the Oxo letters was allowed, whereby at night the red background light illuminates the Oxo sign to the London skyline as our picture insert shows.

Windsor Castle

900 years ago Windsor Castle was built for William the Conqueror to guard the western approach to London. Today the castle is still a working palace and is opened as much as royal commitments allow. Displays in The Drawings Gallery include Queen Victoria and the Crimean War (30 April - 16 October 2005)
